Day and night in the district

The café keeps your hours: morning, afternoon, evening and night arrive in the game when they arrive for you.

Your clock, your sun

The time of day in the game is your time of day. The café wakes with your morning, the street goes amber as the sun sets where you are, and the lamps come on as it gets dark outside your window. Days are longer in summer and shorter in winter, in the game as they are for you.

The light is only light. It never changes what the café earns, how long anything takes or who walks in.

Morning about 6:00 AM to 11:00 AM

Fresh, soft light with a touch of cream in it. The lamps are out; the windows show a pale sky.

Afternoon about 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Full daylight, the room untinted. The last time of day with the lamps still off.

Evening about 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM

The light goes amber as the sun sets. The lamps come up over the last hour and a half of daylight, and warm light spills through the windows onto the street.

Night about 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM

A deep blue world outside, the street dimmed hard, and the café’s own lamps carrying the room: what makes night cozy rather than merely dark.

Lamps and seats

Lamps are off by day and on by night, but a seat a lamp does not reach is a dark seat at any hour: from level 5, a guest sat there pays 60% of the usual tip. Every lamp’s reach is on its page under Decorations, and the rule is explained in Staff and lighting.

The garden

The garden is through the gate beside the café, under the same sky. It has its own sounds, birds by day, and the music changes with the time of day wherever you are. While you are out there, nobody is minding the counter, so no new guests come in. How it grows is in The garden.
